eine begehbare medienkunst-installation der grotesk.group.
montag, 15. november 1999. eine wohnung in düsseldorf, kurz bevor das leben ins netz gezogen ist. drei computer mit windows 98. im wohnzimmer läuft das radio.
setzt euch an einen der drei pcs und surft so, wie wir damals gesurft sind: seiten laden langsam, links führen irgendwohin, und jede abzweigung ist eure entscheidung. oder ihr bleibt einfach eine weile in der wohnung.
im netz von 1999 warten echte seiten aus dem internet archive und neue, die wir im stil der zeit gebaut haben: homepages, foren, chats, gästebücher, fanseiten.
schaut genau hin. auf diesen computern ist mehr, als in einen besuch passt: gästebücher, in die ihr euch eintragen könnt, spiele, webcams, ein protokoll von dingen, die niemand erklären kann. manches ist verschwunden, manches ist seltsam, und manches war nie für eure augen bestimmt. guckt in den papierkorb. öffnet die ordner mit den langweiligen namen.

monday, 15 november 1999. a flat in düsseldorf, just before life moved online. three computers running windows 98. the radio is on in the living room.
sit down at one of the three pcs and surf the way we did back then: pages load slowly, links lead somewhere else, and every turn is your own decision. or you just spend a while in the flat.
the web of 1999 is waiting: real pages from the internet archive and new ones we built in the style of the time. homepages, forums, chats, guestbooks, fan pages.
look closely. there is more on these computers than fits into one visit: guestbooks you can sign, games, webcams, a log of things nobody can explain. some of it is gone, some of it is strange, and some of it was never meant for your eyes. check the recycle bin. open the folders with the boring names.

hier wohnen die neumanns: vier leute, drei computer. setzt euch an ihre pcs und guckt ruhig rein. jede und jeder von ihnen hat ein geheimnis. erzählen werden sie es euch nicht. this is the neumanns' flat: four people, three computers. sit down at their pcs and have a look around. each of them is keeping a secret. they won't tell you.

arbeitet im büro und fotografiert, seit sie 16 ist. bearbeitet am familien-pc ihre fotos, „nur kurz“.

hat sich seinen pc selbst gebaut. eigener winamp-skin, ein referat über das sonnensystem und ein download, der immer bei 94 % hängt.

die familie neumann ist erfunden. ihre computer stehen in der ausstellung. the neumann family is made up. their computers are in the exhibition.
