the unbearable urgency of rebellion — research paper 01
this is the first paper in our talkative series, and the one that set the tone for everything after it: die unerträgliche dringlichkeit der rebellion — kollaborative reflexionen über die gesellschaftlichen und kreativen auswirkungen von ki. it comes out of the first talkative panel, an interdisciplinary discussion across film, music, design, and technology.
a disclaimer we put in the paper, and repeat here: this is an artistic-experimental work, not a peer-reviewed study. the numbers and diagrams illustrate ideas, not datasets. read it as a record of a creative argument, and a starting point for your own.
the premise
ai is a transformative force reshaping professional practice, private life, and cultural norms at once. where automation once came for physical labour, it now reaches into cognitive and creative work. that raises the questions the lab keeps returning to: how much autonomy stays with us, and what happens to our sense of authorship when a prompt is enough?
In einer Welt voller irrelevanter Information ist Klarheit Macht.
we borrowed harari's line as a mandate. the goal of the paper is to produce that clarity by looking at ai through the lens of creative rebellion.
what the panel kept circling
the loss of self-reliance. convenience is the quiet danger. one participant put it plainly:
Ich nutze KI täglich… Manchmal merke ich, dass ich gar nicht mehr selbstständig denken möchte, weil es so bequem ist. Das macht mir Angst.
when machine output stops being questioned, critical thinking erodes — and it erodes fastest in the people who grew up trusting it.
originality versus generic content. generative systems recombine existing patterns. impressive, frequently hollow. the fear voiced again and again: a flood of average, automated work that drowns individual voice.
Die kreative Selbstständigkeit geht verloren, wenn wir uns nur noch auf Prompts verlassen. Aber der kreative Prozess ist es, der unser Handwerk definiert.
power and authenticity. the deeper problem is concentration — a handful of tech giants controlling access to the tools themselves. open, community-built systems were named as the necessary alternative.
the first call to rebellion
this is where the series found its spine. the proposal was not to refuse ai, but to refuse dependence on it:
Wir müssen die Tools hacken, sie anpassen, ihre Ergebnisse manipulieren. Die kreative Rebellion bedeutet, die Systeme zu sabotieren, statt sie blind zu übernehmen.
alongside it, a recurring intuition that digital saturation would trigger a return to analog experience — live events, physical spaces, collective presence valued precisely because they cannot be generated on demand. a little over a year later, that thread became the whole argument of the second paper.
Die Revolution liegt darin, sich von der Abhängigkeit zu lösen und Wege zu finden, unsere eigene Kreativität mit KI zu stärken, ohne sie ersetzen zu lassen.
ai is not an inevitable fate. its use and direction are our responsibility. that was the position in 2024, and we have only become louder about it since.
